By all of my own accounts I think this is the earliest I have heard a Call of Duty title being in its alpha stage." "A few developers even referred to the Modern Warfare 's current build as being in alpha. From everything that I've heard in regards to Modern Warfare 2 everything is running smoothly.

One thing you could do is if you're so worried about the DVD getting scratched is make an image of the DVD on your pc using PowerISO or similar, that way you can still install it as you will obviously still have your LEGIT cd key (why do they still call them cd keys anyway?, most games come on DVD's these days!!) so if the disc does get damaged you don't have to worry, and if you're super paranoid, make 2 images of the disc and save one on an external hard drive as well.In a YouTube video (spotted by Dualshockers), Henderson said: " shouldn't be a massive cause for concern as the majority of these studios have had some involvement in the past couple of years for every single Call of Duty title. The reason I don't know if they stay in Steam is because I've never uninstalled any game on my pc that runs through Steam, but I would say if you go into control panel/add remove programs and click to remove F.E.A.R 2 then it will most definitely NOT be in Steam the next time you load it as you removed it yourself lol. Linking a Retail purchase to a Steam Account is compulsory anyway (if it's a Steam game) such as F.E.A.R 2 for example which installs via the DVD then downloads x amount of data through Steam.

That's just my opinion though, it's not that I'm impatient but when I buy a game and get it home, I want to be able to play it straight away (or pretty soon after I've installed it) rather than wait 2 hours plus for it to download which face it for the size of some of the games out these days downloading 4 gig plus on 8 mb broadband can take about 8 hours not 2! where as having the Retail DVD install about 90% of the game and getting the last 10% via download slashes the download/install time considerably!

Interesting thread but here's my thoughts on this, at the end of the day when you buy a retail disk anyway like I did with Half-Life 2 and other steam games such as Killing Floor, you still have to use it through steam and inevitably every steam game bought on a Retail DVD ends up installing x amount of data from the DVD then downloads some more from steam as well, so at the end of the day Retail or Steam it boils down to this, with Retail you get a DVD and a Manual with your purchase so you actually see a physical item you've bought and paid for which for me is a plus, where as buying something straight through steam you get nothing but the game with nothing to show for your money but the game on your hard drive and it uses more of your available monthly bandwidth (if you have a monthly download limit which I don't) by downloading the entire game through steam which can take some time on a slow connection such as let's say 8mb adsl in the U.K where I am, I'd much prefer to buy the Retail DVD anyway let it install 90% of the game from the disc then the other 10% through steam to "finish off" the installation than downloading all 100% through steam and waiting a couple of hours just for it to download the entire thing.
